Youth Ministry

Youth Ministry seeks to draw young people to responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of Our Lady Queen of Peace parish; to empower them to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in today's world; and to foster the personal and spiritual growth of each young person. For information about Our Lady Queen of Peace's ministry to youth and young adults, contact Mike Sheehan, 703-979-5580, msheehan@olqpva.org

Teen Drop-In Night Program: Commit to participate in our "Teen Drop-In Nights" that happen on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sundays from 7 to 8:45 pm on the stage of Fr. Ray Hall. Volunteers are needed to help with hospitality, particularly in greeting and interacting with the teens, helping teen leaders facilitate the evening of activities, small groups, and reflections.

Teen Service and Justice Projects: Accompany high school and middle school students to volunteer sites in our area and share in justice and service experiences with them (Saturdays and Sundays). Projects include:

  • Gleaning with and for the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC) - Harvesting fruits and vegetables in the summer and fall.
  • Plot against Hunger - Help develop and maintain vegetable beds at OLQP to provide fresh produce to people experiencing poverty.
  • Darfur Interfaith Network - Learn about this war torn region of the Sudan and participate in peace vigils on the 3rd Sunday of the month from 1:30 - 2:30 pm at the Sudanese Embassy.
  • High School Summer Workcamp - We are forming a team of both adults and teens that will be rebuilding houses and serving others. The workcamp is scheduled for July 21-27. The group will begin preparation for the trip several months in advance.

Outings: Throughout the year we are looking for retreat team members, drivers, chaperones, and mentors.

Young Adult Ministry

Young adult ministry at Our Lady Queen of Peace reaches out to people between the ages of 18-40 who are parish members or live nearby. OLQP young adult ministry seeks to provide opportunities to grow in faith, community, and service.

The Sunday 6:00 pm Mass is oriented toward young people but open to all. There is a need for liturgical ministers, choir members, and hospitality volunteers. On the 4th Sunday of the month, young adults host a potluck dinner and social at 7:15 in the Founders Room.

Contact Mike Sheehan, 703-979-5580, msheehan@olqpva.org for ways to get involved.

Young Adult Faith Sharing: Young adults gather twice a month for an hour of prayer and faith sharing from 8-9 pm in the Discussion room of the OLQP parish office. Weeknights vary. Contact Bobby McMahon, bobfrankpat@gmail.com
