Religious Education/Spiritual
Development
Baptismal Preparation
The blessings of Baptism, the ritual elements of the sacrament, and the spiritual significance of those elements are explored and explained in a comfortable gathering of parents a few weeks prior to the celebration. We prefer to celebrate Baptism in community and conveniently schedule weekly baptisms on a rotating basis at the 6 PM Saturday Vigil Mass, the 9:30 AM and 11:15 AM Sunday morning Masses. Volunteer needed for this welcoming ministry.

Minkisi
“Lord, send the gift of your Spirit to fill this place, myself and the world.” The Minkisi ministry believes that in the Spirit of the Living God we are all people of African descent on a spiritual journey – called to be healing instruments of God. In April 1997, this ministry began shortly after a parish revival led by Fr. A.J. McKnight, C.S.Sp. A small group of parishioners accepted the retreat director’s challenge to continue meeting with others as “Christians under construction.” Monthly parish gatherings focus on several aspects of adult faith formation: scripture, contemplative prayer, individual and group reflection, interracial dialogue and social action in the surrounding Nauck community. All are invited to the small group sessions held the first Monday of each month at 7:15 pm in the Discussion Room of the Parish Office Building. Nourishing open hearts and spirits, Minkisi also provides leadership in prayer services, in coffee hours and in an annual mini-retreat on the second Saturday of November.

OLQP Library
In addition to the 2,500 books already catalogued, the Library has recently acquired the Orbis collection, a donation of approximately 1,000 volumes from the Maryknoll fathers and brothers who have closed their Washington, DC residence. Thanks to their generous gift and to your participation and support, the Library has become a rich and varied resource for all OLQP ministries. Come and browse. The Library, located in the lower level of the Ministry Center, is open Sunday mornings, during parish office hours, and by appointment. Book borrowing is organized on the honor system. Please return books in a timely manner. Donations (books on theology, biblical studies, spirituality, Black Studies, topics for ministries, etc.) are most welcome.

Religious Education for Youth
Religious Education is about cherishing children and adults. We carry out the promise which the Church makes at every Baptism to support, pray for, and instruct the baptized and foster their growth in faith. Our aim is to proclaim Christ’s message, participate in building a faith community, lead people to worship and prayer, and motivate them to serve others. While we recognize that faith is a free, mysterious gift of God’s grace, it is a privilege to nurture, encourage and deepen that faith through instruction and dialogue. If you have an hour, a generous spirit and an interest in service to children, we welcome you to a ministry which will enrich your own faith as you share.

Rite of Christian Initiation For
Adults
The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) is a process for welcoming new members into the Roman Catholic Church. The RCIA is a community journey leading to a transformation of mind and spirit; a personal journey in which participants re-examine their relationship with God. Guided by the Gospel and encouraged by the welcome of church members, newcomers find their place in the community of believers. The enthusiastic and joyous response of candidates to the discovery of Christ in their lives sparks renewed faith in the lives of other church members. We welcome people who would like to know more about the Catholic faith, as well as Catholics who want to return to the Church. Also, we welcome parishioners who are interested in becoming sponsors or part of the RCIA Team.

Teen Ministry
The Parish is currently forming a search committee for a full-time Youth Minister. The group has been self-led with parent/volunteer facilitators. The purpose of the youth ministry to provide an opportunity for teens to build community, to proclaim and live the Gospel, and to help the teens in our parish find their place in the community of believers as easily and conveniently as possible. It accompanies them as they grow in faith and knowledge. It helps them explore and reflect on the concerns that surround teenagers’ lives and the world. Prayer, education, justice and service, information and entertainment are pillars that shape the teen ministry. Come! There is no one else but you who can bring your gifts to the greater community of the Church. Our parish needs your energy, talents, and insights to continue to carry out its mission stated in Matthew 25. Teens (14 and up) welcome!
